On October 5, 2017, Doug Morton, Associate Vice Chancellor of Facilities, was presented with the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Patriot Award. The award was presented to Mr. Morton for his meritorious support of employees in the National Guard and Reserve.

Doug’s nominator Allen Boyette, NC State Director of Building and Maintenance Operations and Brigadier General of the North Carolina National Guard, says “NC State is a big supporter of the military, and Doug is a strong advocate for reservist and citizen soldiers that work within the facilities division.”

The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is a Department of Defense program established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component Service members and their civilian employers to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee’s military commitment.

The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leave of absence if needed. Patriot Awards are awarded to individual supervisors, nominated by employees serving in the National Guard of Reserve, or the spouse of a Guard or Reserve member.
