2024 Spring Ready To Retire Mini-Workshop Series

University Human Resources is pleased to announce it will host the spring 2024 Ready To Retire Virtual Mini-Workshop Series in March. Past virtual Ready To Retire sessions were popular among participants. We will again offer various stand-alone retirement planning sessions that you may attend based on your interest. The mini-workshop topics will include Social Security, State Health Plan retiree benefits and Medicare and the mandatory retirement plans: the Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS) and the UNC Optional Retirement Program (ORP). We encourage employees planning to retire within the next few years to attend the workshops, but anyone interested in them is welcome to do so. Each session will be limited to the first 300 people to register

Closed Sessions:

State Health Plan Retiree Benefits/Medicare – Wednesday, March 20 | 10 a.m.- noon

A speaker from the State Health Plan will review retiree health plan options and details about using Medicare upon retirement, including enrollment, plan comparisons, Medicare Advantage and more. We will record this session for those unable to attend.

Teachers’ an State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS) – Thursday, March 21 | 2-4 p.m.

A speaker will review TSERS, the ORBIT platform, retirement eligibility for TSERS, how to estimate your pension benefit, retirement payment options and the TSERS retirement process. Only TSERS members should attend this session. We will record this session for those unable to attend.

The UNC Optional Retirement Program (ORP) – Tuesday, March 19 | 2-4 p.m.

In this session, a speaker and representatives from TIAA and CapTrust will review ORP, retirement eligibility for ORP, retirement payment options, other income sources and the ORP retirement process. Only those enrolled in ORP should attend this session. Registration is closed, we will record this session for those unable to attend.

Social Security and Your Retirement Benefits – Held Tuesday, March 5 | 10 a.m.- noon

“Social Security and Your Retirement Benefits,” presented by Brian Simpson, a North Carolina public affairs specialist for the Social Security Administration. Topics included eligibility for Social Security benefits, how retirement affects your benefit, qualifications for spousal and survivorship benefits, how to get the most from your Social Security benefits, and more. Unlike the other virtual Ready to Retire mini-workshops we will host, this session cannot be recorded due to Social Security Administration regulations.
