When major life events occur, changes to your benefits may be necessary. Our Life Events section will allow you to find all the information you will need for making changes to your benefits due to life events.
Documentation is required when making changes due to a life event. Documentation must be added into the Enrollment Portal through My Pack when entering a life event in. Click here to view acceptable forms of documentation for Life Event Changes.

Beneficiary Designations provides benefit vendors with information on who a particular benefit should be assigned to as well as whom to contact in the event of an employee’s death. Without a valid beneficiary designation an employee’s benefit payouts may be subject to estate regulation through the presiding counties clerk of court.
Employees can update their beneficiary designations for the below plans at any time.
Teachers and State Employees Retirement System (TSERS)
TSERS Members are able to change their beneficiaries through the online retirement plan site ORBIT.
Optional Retirement Plan (ORP)
ORP Participants with TIAA and Fidelity can update their beneficiary associated with this mandatory retirement plan by contacting thier vendor or making changes through their online portal.

Voluntary/Supplemental Retirement Plans
Employees may update their beneficiary designations associated with voluntary 403(b) , 401(k) and/or 457(b) plans by contacting their vendor representative or making changes online.

NC Flex Plans (NC Flex Life Insurance, Critical Illness, Cancer Polices, etc)
All changes must be processed using the enrollment system through My Pack Portal> Employee Self Service> Benefits> My State Employee Benefits or by calling 855-859-0966
Select “Benefits”
Click on the “View/Edit information” tab on the plan you are wanting to make the change
Select “Beneficiaries Edit”
Continue through the change process and be sure to click “SAVE”
UNC System Voluntary Life Insurance & AD&D (Securian)
To update beneficiary information for the UNC System Life Insurance & AD&D Policy, employees must update/add beneficiaries through My Pack Portal> Employee Self Service> Benefits> My UNC Benefits
